Maachah ~ መዓካ: The name “Maachah” means pressed down; worn; fastened (መቃ), HBN

Minnith ~ ሚኒት: “Minnith” means distribution (ማከፋፈል), SBD, a place on the east of the Jordan, named as the point to which Jephthah's slaughter of the Ammonites extended. (Jud 11:33) The "wheat of Minnith" is mentioned in (Ezk 27:17)

Miriam ~ ማሪያም ማርያም: The root words for Miriam are ‘Meri’ (መሪ) and ‘Ema’ (እማ) the meaning is ‘the leader, the first mother’.

Mithredath ~ ሚትሪዳጡ: The name “Mithredath” means breaking the law (ህግ መጣስ), HBN,

1.       The treasurer of Cyrus king of Persia, to whom the king gave the vessels of the temple. (Ezr 1:8)

2.       A Persian officer stationed at Samaria. (Ezra 4:7)

Mitylene ~ ሚጢሊን: “Mitylene” means mutilated (ቁስለኛ), SBD, the chief city of the island of Lesbos, on its east coast, in the Aegean Sea. Paul, during his third missionary journey, touched at this place on his way from Corinth to Judea (Act 20:14).

Mizpah ~ ምጽጳ: The name “Mizpah” means a watch-tower; speculation (ማማ), HBN, the name of several places in Palestine.

1.       The earliest of all, in order of the narrative, is the heap of stones piled up by Jacob and Laban, (Gen 31:48)

2.       A second Mizpeh, on the east of Jordan, was the Mizpeh-moab, where the king of that nation was living when David committed his parents to his care. (1 Sam 22:3)

3.       A third was "the land of Mizpeh," or more accurately "of Mizpah," the residence of the Hivites who joined the northern confederacy against Israel, headed by Jabin king of Hazor. (Jos 11:3)

Mnason ~ ምናሶን: “Mnason” means remembering (መታሰቢያ), SBD is honorably mentioned in Scripture. (Act 21:16) It is most likely that his residence at this time was not Caesarea, but Jerusalem. He was a Cyprian by birth, and may have been a friend of Barnabas. (Act 4:36)

Moab ~ ሞዓብ: The name Moab is derived from ‘MAb’ (ዓብ) the root word is ‘Abe’ (አበ) the meaing is ‘to become a father’.

It has been alleged that he was carried into captivity with Jeconiah, and hence that he must have been at least one hundred and twenty-nine years old in the twelfth year of Ahasuerus (Xerxes). But the words of Esther do not necessarily lead to this conclusion. It was Kish of whom it is said (Est 2:6) that he "had been carried away with the captivity."

Moreh ~ ሞሬ: “Moreh” means teacher (መሪ), SBD

1.       The plain or plains (or, as it should rather be rendered, the oak or oaks) of Moreh. The oak of Moreh was the first recorded halting-place of Abram after his entrance into the land of Canaan. (Gen 12:6) It was at the "place of Shechem,” (Gen 12:6)

Moriah ~ ሞሪያ: “Moriah” means chosen by Jehovah (መሪ ያህ), SBD; one of the hills of Jerusalem; Here Solomon's temple was built, on the spot that had been the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite (2 Sam 24:24, 25; 2 Chr 3:1)

Moserah ~ ሞሴሮት: “Moserah” means bonds (ማሰሪያ), SBD, apparently the same as Moseroth, (Num 33:30).

Moses ~ ሙሴ: The name Moses is derived from Me’Wasie’ (ዋሴ) the meaning is taken out, delivered, saved, rescued... ... [Related term(s):- Mushi]
